Foster, Greening Inducted into Pitt-Bradford Athletics Hall of Fame

Bradford, PA – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford held their annual Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday as part of Alumni and Family Weekend. This year, the University inducted baseball player Zach Foster (’12) and basketball player Evan Greening (’17).

Foster, a native of Bradford, PA, was a member of the baseball program as a player between 2006-08. Foster was 5-2 in his career with the Panthers, posting a 5.63 ERA with 64 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched.

After the 2008 season, Foster became the first player in program history to be drafted, as he was selected in the 49th round of the MLB Amateur Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

“Zach opened the door for future Pitt-Bradford players to continue their careers professionally,” said Athletic Director Bret Butler, who inducted Foster. “His hard work and success widened our network in the game, and the positive impression he made only improved those relationships going forward.”

Foster went on to spend 5 seasons in the Pirates organization, making 152 appearances with a 13-16 record, a 4.17 ERA, 13 saves, and 168 strikeouts. He was praised within the organization for his professionalism, leadership, and for being an exemplary teammate.

After his career ended, Foster returned to Pitt-Bradford to finish his degree. He also rejoined the program as an assistant coach and, in 2015, became the head coach of the Panthers.

“I’m extremely humbled and honored to join the Hall of Fame. I think of the baseball players already inducted, and they were all players I watched growing up and when I was being recruited, and to be included in them is special,” said Foster. “I had so much help during my career from the people that God blessed me to be around,” he added. “I appreciate all of them and the opportunities I have received because of their help and support.”

Evan Greening, a native of Fredericksburg, VA, spent two seasons with the Panthers between 2015 and 2017. In those two seasons, he made an indelible mark on the program, the university, and the community at large.

Over two seasons with the Panthers, Greening tallied 1,060 points, 670 rebounds, and a 56.35% shooting percentage. For his four-year collegiate career, he totaled 1,885 points and 1,102 rebounds.

He was a four-time All-AMCC Performer, making the first team in both of his seasons with Pitt-Bradford. He was also named 2nd Team All-region by d3hoops.com and a 2nd Team All-American by Hero Sports.

“Evan is one of the greatest basketball players I have seen at Pitt-Bradford in my time at the university,” said Faculty Athletic Representative, Dr. Tony Gaskew, who inducted Greening.

Evan’s successes were not limited to the court. He was a Jostens Trophy Finalist in 2017 and was named to the NABC/Allstate Good Works Team for his community service efforts. This resulted in him being recognized at the 2017 NCAA Final Four.

"It is so humbling to be inducted into the Pitt-Bradford Athletic Hall of Fame,” said Greening. “This University means everything to me, and to be included amongst the best students and athletes in its history is an incredible honor."

Since graduating, Greening has had a successful career as a teacher and a coach. He was the Dules District Coach of the Year in 2018 and has coached basketball at the scholastic, Division I, and Division III levels. He was the youngest head high school basketball coach in the state of Virginia and currently leads a program at the highest classification of the state.
