Missy Wahlberg ’06
A native of Kane, Pa., Missy played on the volleyball team from 2002 to 2005. Missy was a sports medicine major and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2006.
A highly competitive player, Missy was an intimidating presence from the moment she stepped on the floor. She was a phenomenal hitter that was very much a team player and pushed her teammates to be better. Her enthusiasm combined with her hard-working attitude made her of one of the top players in school history.
She ranks third in Pitt-Bradford in career kills with 1,273, sixth in digs with 937, fifth in blocks with 196, seventh in service aces with 102 and fourth in sets played with 361. She holds two of the top five seasons in school history for total kills. Her mark of 415 kills as a sophomore ranks third overall. Missy led the AMCC with a .312 hitting percentage as a freshman and was second only to her teammate with 3.79 kills per game. A year later, she would lead the league in kills per game and was among the top 10 as a junior.
Her honors include being named AMCC Newcomer of the Year in 2002 and being tabbed first-team all-conference three straight years. After suffering a severe injury near the end of her junior season that would have sidelined most athletes, Missy pushed through her rehabilitation and received all-conference honorable mention honors as a senior.
Matt Barnes ’01
A native of Clearfield, Pa., Matt played on the basketball team from 1996-2000. Matt was an applied mathematics majoring with a minor in secondary education and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 2000.
Matt played a significant role in one of the best runs of basketball in Pitt-Bradford history. At the conclusion of his four years, the Panthers had accumulated more wins over any other four-year stretch in program history. He helped lead Pitt-Bradford to the regular season championship in the inaugural year of the AMCC with a 10-0 record and the school’s first-ever appearance in the ECAC postseason tournament. He served as a team captain his final two seasons indicating his strong leadership qualities.
He finished his career 14th all-time in scoring with 1,148 points, third in career three-pointers made with 183, third in career free throw percentage with a mark of .824, and his 36 percent made three-point percentage ranks fifth-best all-time. He did all this while playing alongside two 2,000-point and two 1,000-point scorers.
His honors include being named ECAC Rookie of the Week his freshman season and being tabbed to the ECAC All-Rookie team. As a sophomore, Matt was named AMCC Player of the Week, and he was a second-team all-conference pick as a junior. He was a first-team selection his senior year, and he was recognized as the 1999-00 Pitt-Bradford Male Athlete of the Year.
