Conan Young Sets Program Record as Panthers Defeat Medaille

Bradford, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team opened its home slate on Friday evening with a dual match against the Medaille Mavericks. The Panthers defeated Medaille 85 to 39.

Swimming in his first collegiate home race, Conan Young made a big splash, setting the program record in the 1000-yard freestyle. He finished the race with a time of 10:17.45, besting Carey Behm's record of 10:26.91 set in 2018 by 9.46 seconds. After starting with a 27.90 split in his first lap, Young posted 18 straight laps between 30.76 and 31.61 seconds. He was able to close with a 29.09-second lap to finish the race and secure the program record. He was also just two seconds behind the pace for the pool record.

"Conan has really hit the ground running this season," said head coach Chelsea Schwab. "He has big goals, and this record is just the first of many steps along the way to achieving them."

Along with setting the program record in the 1000, Young was also able to take first in the 100-yard butterfly and posted a 24.85-second split in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Panthers came away with wins in 8 of 9 individual events.
