Panthers Men's Soccer to Host Allegheny, Wooster for Home Opening Weekend

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's soccer team will host a pair of games during its home opening weekend, first welcoming Allegheny on Friday and Wooster on Saturday.

The Panthers are coming off three games on the road to being their 2017 season.

Ugwunna Amadi scored for Pitt-Bradford in the team's season opener last Friday, showing his speed as he beat his defender to a long ball in the box before striking it past the keeper.

Ryuta Hayakawa and Wyatt May both have recorded a team-leading four shots so far this season, and both have forced opposing keepers to make saves with three of those shots.

In goal, Derrick Brock has played all 270 minutes for the Panthers so far. He has made 22 total saves, which leads the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. 

Friday's game against Allegheny will begin at 4 p.m., and Saturday's kickoff with Wooster will be at 3 p.m. 

About Allegheny:

  • The Allegheny Gators have started out their season an even 1-1 through two games, claiming a win in their opener at King's (Sept. 1), 1-0, and falling at Scranton (Sept. 2), 3-1.
  • Jon Sion and Tolossa Hassan have each scored a goal for the Gators. The goal has served as Sion's lone shot on goal, while Hassan has put two shots on net.
  • In total, opponents have outshot the Gators, 24-9.
  • David Stekla has played all 180 minutes in goal this season for Allegheny. He has made nine saves and posted a .750 save percentage.

About Wooster:

  • The Wooster Fighting Scots will come to the Kessel Athletics Complex after battling at Grove City on Friday, the first road contest of the season.
  • After suffering a loss in the season opener against Marietta (Sept. 1), Wooster rebounded with back-to-back shutout wins over Washington & Jefferson (Sept. 2) and Mount Union (Sept. 5). The 1-0 victory over Mount Union came in overtime, 1-0.
  • Manny Burton has led the way for the Fighting Scots offensively, netting two goals on five shots. He has also assisted one for a team-leading five points. Wilson Frejie and Andrew Klien have also scored for Wooster.
  • In goal, Will Collins has seen all the action on the pitch. He's allowed a pair of goals and made 20 saves for an impressive .909 save percentage.
