Baseball to Host First Game of 2021

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team is set to host Mount Aloysius on Monday, in what will be the first athletic event on campus since February 22, 2020.

The Panthers enter the AMCC doubleheader with a 1-1 record after opening their season with a split at Penn State-Altoona.

In their season opener, the Panthers lost in walk-off fashion by a score of 2-1. The Panthers used strong pitching performances from Reid Tarnowski (4.0 IP, 1 ER, 6K) and Kyler Majka (0-1, 2.2 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 5K) to keep the game within reach, but were unable to take the lead before the Lions won it in the 7th. Jake Mcnabb drove in the lone run for the Panthers in the game with a 3rd inning single to center.

The Panthers bats awoke in game two, scoring 16 runs on their way to a 16-10 victory. Pitt-Bradford fell behind early but used an 8-run 3rd inning to break the game open. Senior Matt LaBadie made a big impact in the game, hitting two home runs, the first of his career. McNabb tallied three hits in the game and brought in 4 runs. LaBadie, Kevin Rehak, and Nico Hall all brought in three Panther Runs. Ben Suter (1-0, 2.1 IP, 1UER, 1H, 2K)  picked up the win after 2.1 strong innings in relief.

The Mounties enter competition with a 6-6 record, which includes a win over 13th ranked Shenandoah. This is their first set of games in AMCC play. Jeremy Iellimo leads the offense with a .429 batting average. Troy Emert has also been productive for the Mounties, compiling a .346 batting average with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs. Dylan Coyle (2-1) has led the pitching staff, compiling 26.0 innings in 5 appearances. He has a 4.85 era with 19 strikeouts.

As Pitt-Bradford athletic teams have prepared to host competitions, new regulations have been put into place which comply with the university's mitigation protocols.

  1. New seating areas have been roped off to separate spectators from players, coaches, and game management staff. This area includes both dugouts, the bleachers, press box, and batting cages. Spectators will be able to view the game while remaining physically distanced along the hill behind the backstop.
  2. The restrooms at the baseball field will not be available for spectator use. Spectators requiring bathroom facilities have access to the bathrooms behind the Facilities Management building next to the Tennis Courts and Soccer Fields. These restrooms are sanitized and disinfected in accordance with Pitt-Bradford campus policies.
  3. There will be no concessions at the event.
  4. Spectators, athletes, and coaches are prohibited from chewing and spitting sunflower seeds and smokeless tobacco products within the complex.

The games will also be available to watch virtually, as they will be live-streamed on the Pitt-Bradford Athletics website. First pitch for game 1 is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
