BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team earned a split in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Medaille Saturday, winning game one before falling in game two.

"Ryan Boyer continues to pitch very well," Head Coach Zach Foster said. "The first game was smooth all the way around. Game two, we just gave too many free passes that extended the innings and killed us. They battled hard though. We have to clear that one and focus on tomorrow."

Boyer tossed all seven innings of game one to pick up his third complete game of the season and improve to 4-1 on the year. He struck out 11 batters, tying for his career-high set in the first game of the season at Chatham.

Jay Clinger and Jason Lucarelli knocked in runs to support Boyer and lift the Panthers to a 3-0 victory in the first game.

In game two, the Panthers held a 5-2 lead but eventually let it get away.

The Panthers came to bat down 15-6 in the bottom of the ninth but scored four runs on five hits and a Medaille error to go down fighting.

Dalton Renn, Clinger and Lucarelli had two RBIs apiece in game two. Sawyer Packard, Austin Parent, Clinger and Tim Brown all knocked doubles, while Tyler Hoops scored three runs.

Because of untimely weather, Saturday's contests were the first played at the Kessel Athletic Complex of the 2018 season.

Pitt-Bradford is now 11-10 overall and 5-3 in AMCC contests.

Game One: Pitt-Bradford 3, Medaille 0

The Panthers earned the first run of the ballgame in the second inning. Brown led off with a triple to left center and then came home on a sacrifice fly from Lucarelli.

Pitt-Bradford doubled its lead in the third as Packard and Parent worked back-to-back singles. The pair then moved up on a Dalton Renn groundout.

Clinger sent Packard home on a groundout to second.

Lucarelli got things going in the fourth with a leadoff double. He later scored on a Medaille error off the bat of Samuel Dreistadt.

The three runs proved to be plenty as Boyer was dominant on the mound once again. The Mavericks worked a base hit in the first inning, then didn't get a single base knock until the sixth.

Boyer scattered three hits and walked two en route to earning his second victory in AMCC action.

Dreistadt was the lone Panther to record a multi-hit game as we went 2-for-3.

Game Two: Medaille 15, Pitt-Bradford 10

Medaille jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with a pair in the first inning.

The Panthers got one back in the bottom of the frame as Parent knocked a double that scored Hoops.

Pitt-Bradford then put up a four-spot in the third to go up 5-2.

Dalton Renn sent home a pair with an RBI single, and Brody Wood drove in another on a fielder's choice. Brown drove in the fourth run of the inning with an RBI double to left center.

A run in the fourth for Medaille cut the Panther lead to 5-3 and three more in the fifth brought the score to 6-5 in favor of the Mavericks.

The Panthers tied it at 6-6 in fifth as Lucarelli scored Clinger

But a pair of runs from Medaille in the sixth and another in the eighth put the Mavericks ahead 9-6 before they took a commanding lead in the ninth.

Four-straight Mavericks reached on walks or hit by pitches, then worked back-to-back singles leading up to the big hit -- a bases-clearing double to centerfield. 

Pitt-Bradford then came to bat down 15-6 in the bottom of the ninth.

The Panthers were not going to go down without a fight.

With Hoops, Parent and Dalton Renn aboard, Clinger smacked a double to right center that scored two.

Dalton Renn and Clinger then scored on a ball in play by Lucarelli.

That would be all the runs the Panthers would get, though, as a Medaille pitching change paid off and the Mavericks secured the 15-10 win to force the sweep.

Andrew Bacha was the Panther starter on the mound. He tossed five innings and allowed eight hits and six runs -- five of which earned. He scattered four strikeouts and walked just one. 

Benjamin Hayes was the pitcher of record, surrendering the lead on two earned runs through the sixth, seventh and eighth.

Drake Renn came on to pitch the ninth and allowed four earned runs, walking one and hitting three batters.

Sam Gwiazdinski worked the final three outs, giving up a pair of earned runs.

Pitt-Bradford will be in action next as they travel to D'Youville Sunday for a doubleheader. The games starting at 1 p.m. will be played on the campus of the University at Buffalo in Amherst, N.Y.
