Panthers Close Out 2018 Regular Season Home Action With Three-Set Win Over Hilbert

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team defeated Hilbert in straight sets at the KOA Arena during its final regular season home match of the 2018 campaign Wednesday.

With the win, Pitt-Bradford remains in third place in the AMCC with a 6-2 record in conference games, while also moving to 16-12 overall. Hilbert falls to 0-19 overall and 0-8 in AMCC action.

"I was happy with the way we came out and played in the first set," Head Coach Tom Roof said. "We played really well in the first and third sets. I think one thing we really need to do is stay consistent in creating our own points and not relying on the other teams to score for us. I think that's what happened in the second set. We served really well tonight, and Emily Cleveland and Payton Orzech played really well for us. We were also able to get a lot of players in tonight, which is always nice."

The Panthers got the night started with a convincing 25-11 win in the first set, led by seven kills from Cleveland and five from Katie Treat.

Hilbert then held the lead for much of the second set until the Panthers went on a run.

A balanced hitting attack highlighted by three kills each from Kamryn Piscitelli and Treat, along with two each from Gesica Ferrar and Katie Rose, helped the Panthers pull out a 25-21 win in the set.

The Panthers returned to form in the third set, knocking 13 kills on 20 attempts for a .450 hitting percentage to take a 25-10 win to complete the match victory.

Treat hammered a game-high nine kills while Cleveland added eight kills.

Orzech had 25 assists, Ferrar had six and Caitlin Cipriano assisted four of the team's kills.

Laura Hildebrand had 14 digs to lead the Panther defense.

All 19 active Pitt-Bradford players saw time in the three-set match.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will wrap up its regular season with an AMCC road match at Penn State-Altoona Saturday.
