Buffalo, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team was back in action at the Flickinger Athletic Center on Thursday as they competed in 3 individual races and one relay. Skyler Bland was the top Panther performer on the day, as she not only qualified for finals but also set a new program record in the 200-yard individual medley.
The freshman from Meadville finished the multidisciplinary race in 2:21.71 which put her in 12th place. She broke the old record of 2:22.24 which was held by Elena Ehrentraut since 2012. She was able to share 1.10 seconds off of her preliminary time and also moved up 1 spot in the final standings. She earned 5 team points in the event.
The Panthers also fielded a 200-yard freestyle relay team. Bailey Fedak, Bland, Carly Evers, and Emma Slocum finished 9th with a time of 1:48.51. They earned 18 team points in the race.
In the 500-two Panthers swam in the preliminary session and missed out on qualification. Fedak just missed out on the finals, finishing 20th with a time of 5:54.91. Slocum posted a time of 6:09.38 to finish 28th. Pitt-Bradford also had two swimmers compete in the 50-yard freestyle sprint. Evers swam the sprint in 27.25 seconds and finished 28th. She was 1.14 seconds off of the final qualification time. Brooklyn Bellavia finished 43rd with a time of 32.08 seconds.
The third day of competition at the Championship is set to begin with preliminary rounds at 10:00 a.m., with finals starting at 5:30 tomorrow. Swimmers will compete in the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 400-yard medley relay.
