Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team picked up 72 points on the first day of competition at the Fredonia Invitational on Friday, putting them in 6th place through 10 events.
After the preliminary round this morning, the Panthers had 3 swimmers qualify for finals and entered one team in the 20-yard freestyle relay.
The Panthers' top finish of the day came in the 200-yard individual medley. Skylar Bland qualified in 8th, and then placed in the same spot in the finals, earning 22 team points. She finished the multi-disciplinary race in 2:26.40.
Senior Bailey Fedak qualified for finals in the 500-yard freestyle. She finished the final race in 19th with a time of 6:02.47. She earned 6 team points.
The final Panther to qualify for finals was Carly Evers in the 50-yard freestyle. Evers finished the sprint in 28.11 seconds, taking 21st.
To open the finals, the Pitt-Bradford relay team of Emma Slocum, Evers, Bland and Fedak finished the 200-yard freestyle relay in 9th with a time of 1:51.24.
The Panthers will be back in action tomorrow for day 2 of the invitational. Swimmers will compete in the 400-yard IM, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100-yard backstroke. Preliminary rounds begin at 10:00 a.m., with the finals starting at 6:00 p.m.
