Bradford, PA -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team hosted their first meet of the year in the Duke Aquatic Center on Saturday. The Panthers took on Penn State-Behrend and fell to the Lions 180-40.
The Panthers had a strong start in the 200-yard medley relay, taking 2nd in the event with a time of 2:07.59. Emma Slocum started the race with a 33.27-second backstroke leg. Skyler Bland followed that swimming the breaststroke for her portion of the race, finishing in 35.55 seconds. Bailey Fedak took the butterfly and swam her leg in 30.82 seconds before Carly Evers finished the race with a 27.95-second freestyle split.
Fedak picked up an additional 5 individual points for the Panthers. She finished 4th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:14.43 and then 3rd in the 500, finishing in 6:18.44. Fedak also swam the lead leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 27.35 seconds.
Skylar Bland had a strong debut, finishing the 200-yard IM in 2:30.28. She also had a 3rd place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:25.85.
Emma Slocum finished 4th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:15.58 and then 5th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:39.09.
Along with a pair of 28-second splits in the two relays, Carly Evers picked up 5 points in the freestyle sprint events. Evers took 3rd in the 50, finishing in 28.25 seconds. She followed that with a 4th place finish in the 100 with a time of 1:05.26.
The Panthers are now 0-2 in dual meets to begin their season. They will be right back in the pool next weekend when they travel to Alfred for a tri-match with Alfred State and Penn State-Altoona.
