Panthers Outpaced by Roberts Wesleyan

Rochester, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's swimming team traveled to Rochester on Saturday to swim in their first meet of the Spring semester, as they took on Roberts Wesleyan. The Panthers were unable to keep pace with the Redhawks and lost the meet by a score of 159-61.

Pitt-Bradford was able to come away with a pair of event wins, to go along with three second-place finishes. Both Bailey Fedak and Isabella Cercone came away with an event win and a second-place finish, while Emma Slocum also finished as runner-up in one event.

Both of Fedak's strong finishes came in the freestyle sprint events. She came away with the win in the 100-yard freestyle, in what was one of the closest races of the day. After just trailing one of her opponents after one lap, she was able to come back and outtouch her a the wall, winning in 1.01.13, which was .07 faster than 2nd place. Her 2nd place finish was also a close race, as she was 2nd in the 50-freestyle, finishing .57 seconds behind the winner with a time of 27.60 seconds.

To little surprise, Cercone's victory came in the 100-yard breaststroke. She breezed by the competition in the event, finishing in 1:13.95, over 10.1 seconds ahead of the field. She took 2nd in the 200-yard IM, completing the medley in 2:28.68, 5 seconds off of the pace.

Emma Slocum took 2nd in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.94, while both Panther relays were able to complete their respective races, adding 2 more runner-up performances.

The PAntehrs are now 2-5 in dual meets for the season. They will be at home one final time on Saturday, as they host Penn state-Altoona at 12:00 p.m. in Duke Aquatic Center.
