Panthers Compete on 2nd Day at Blue Devil Invitational

Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's swimming team returned to the pool in Fredonia, N.Y. for the second day of competition at the Blue Devil Invitational. After 28 events, the Panthers remain in 6th place and have totaled 281 points.

All 8 Pitt-Bradford swimmers qualified for finals across 3 different events, while the Panthers also had 3 teams compete in two relays. 

Isabella Cercone had the best finish of the day for Pitt-Bradford as she took 6th place in the 100-yard breaststroke. She finished in 1:13.62, five seconds off of the winning pace.

Three Panthers qualified for finals in the 200-yard freestyle. Bailey Fedak was the top finisher for Pitt-Bradford in the event, taking 14th place with a time of 2:17.80. Emma Slocum finished 2 places behind her in 16th at 2:27.45. Finally, Hannah Westover took 19th place with a time of 2:41.88.

The final four Pitt-Bradford swimmers to individually qualify made the finals in the 100-yard backstroke. The teammates all swam in the 3rd heat of the event, racing each other to close individual competition. Madison Foote was the best finisher for the Panthers, as she took 17th with a time of 1:18.66. Willow Sandusky was the next Panther to finish, taking 18th place with a time of 1:25.90. Ruby Smith and Brooklyn Bellavia were also able to qualify and complete the race, taking 19th and 20th place respectively. Smith finished the final race in 1:33.30, while Bellavia posted a time of 1:52.22.

The Panthers started the day with the 200-yard medley relay, entering two teams in the event. The top team for the Panthers finished in 12th place. Slocum, Cercone, Foote, and Fedak finished in 2:08.95 to earn 34 points for Pitt-Bradford. The Panthers' second relay team successfully completed the event to add another 30 points to the Pitt-Bradford tally. Smith, Westover, Sandusky, and Bellavia posted a time of 2:40.17 to finish in 14th. Pitt-Bradford closed day 2 with a 10th-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle. Slocum, Foote, Fedak, and Cercone finished in 9:29.13. 

The Panthers have one more day of competition in Fredonia tomorrow. Preliminary rounds begin at 9:00 a.m. with the finals commencing at 5:00 p.m.
