Coach Daryl Jones joined Coach Mell Benson's staff during the 2024-25 season, serving as a recruiting coordinator for the program. 
 
Coach Jones brings an impressive background of playing and coaching experience to the court, making him a cornerstone of success. With a passion for basketball and a dedication to mentoring student-athletes, Coach Jones has built a legacy of excellence, leadership, and character development during his coaching career.
 
At Pueblo High School, where he has served as head coach since 2021, Coach Jones has transformed the basketball program. From implementing rigorous preseason strength and conditioning programs to developing two 1,000-point scorers, his commitment to excellence is evident. Under his leadership, multiple players have advanced to collegiate basketball, further solidifying his ability to prepare athletes for the next level.
 
Previously, Coach Jones led programs at Tucson High School and Santa Rita High School, achieving milestones such as the best record in 12 years (19-9) and back-to-back years of full player eligibility for the first time in five years. His innovative approach to practice planning, game strategies, and player development has earned him accolades, including being named Coach of the Year at both Tucson High and Pueblo High.
Jones has also coached numerous standout athletes, including multiple Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year honorees at Pueblo and Tucson High, as well as a Defensive Player of the Year at Tucson High. His commitment to developing players' skills and fostering leadership has consistently resulted in individual and team success.
 
As the CEO of the P5 Basketball Program (Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance) and a previous assistant of the Tucson Spartans AAU, Coach Jones has expanded his impact beyond high school basketball. He has developed over 15 players who earned basketball scholarships by focusing on fundamentals like ball handling, shooting, and conditioning, while instilling confidence and motivation in his athletes.
Coach Jones also has firsthand experience as a player, having competed at the professional and collegiate levels. He earned a scholarship to Notre Dame de Namur University, where he competed in NCAA Division II basketball. Additionally, he attended training camps for the NBA D-League with the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings, played overseas in Mexico City, and earned All-Conference and All-State honors during his time at Rio Hondo Community College.
 
Off the court, Coach Jones holds a B.A. in Communications from Arizona State University and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Educational Leadership. His dedication to personal growth mirrors the values he instills in his players: hard work, discipline, and striving for greatness in all aspects of life.
