Panthers Fall to Penn State-Behrend on Senior Day

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's basketball team was unable to pick up a win in their final game of the season, as they fell to Penn State-Behrend 79-51. At the half, Pitt-Bradford took a few moments to recognize 3 senior basketball players and a graduating cheerleader. Shirleah Ragin, Lyric Collins, Jenna Hicks, and Audrey South were all recognized by their respective teams and fans as they were joined by their families at midcourt.

Game Notes:

  • The game got off to a very quick start as both teams scored on their first possessions. Penn State Behrend scored first on a put-back layup but Jasmin Miller was able to respond, hitting a three from the wing on their first possession.
  • After Miller's three, the Lions were able to push ahead, but Ragin kept the Panthers in the game scoring two straight baskets. Mille tied the game at 9 with two free throws at the 4:25 mark in the first. The Lions were able to outscore the Panthers 10-2 over the final four minutes of the quarter to take an 8 point advantage to the second.
  • Penn State-Behrend continued their run over the first 4 minutes of the half, increasing their lead to 15 points. Miller and Ragin each hit a shot in the lane during the run.
  • Ragin made a lay-up after racing down court following a steal, and after an Ashley Hall steal on the next possession, made two free throws to get the deficit back to 11 points.
  • The Lions restored and added to their lead over the next four minutes before Daizjah Brown hit two free throws to send the game to half time with the score 39-25.
  • Penn State-Behrend slowly added to their lead over the 3rd quarter, as they outscored the Panthers 19-13 in the period. Jenna Hicks scored 4 points in the quarter and grabbed 4 rebounds. 
  • The trend continued in the final period, as the Panthers once again scored 13 in the quarter, but the Lions added 21 points. Jasmin Miller hit two three-pointers in the quarter to lead the Panthers in scoring for the period.

Leaders:

  • Shirleah Ragin was the Panthers leading scorer, finishing her career with a 19 point performance. She also grabbed 7 rebounds, with 6 of them coming on the offensive end.
  • Jasmin Miller a=finished just behind her with 15 points. She went 5 for 12 from the field and 3 for 5 from beyond the arc.
  • Jenna Hicks scored 4 points in her last collegiate game and grabbed 7 rebounds, 4 offensive, and 3 defensive.
  • The final senior, Lyric Collins was unable to score in the game, but grabbed 3 rebounds and recorded an assist.

The Panthers finish their season with a 3-22 record and a 3-17 record in AMCC play. Shirleah Ragin finished the season as the team's leading scorer, averaging 11.5 per game. Shaelyn Snipes and Jasmin Miller had the second-highest averages on the team, each scoring 9.3 points per contest.
