Rochester, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team returned to action after the semester break with a dual meet at Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday. The Panthers lost the meet 189-85, but still made their mark, as Conan Young set a pair of pool records during the meet.
Conan Young started his day strong, taking the 1000-yard freestyle by more than 42 seconds. His time of 10:01.31 was his first pool record of the day. Young also closed his day with another record-setting performance. In the 500-yard freestyle, he breezed to another victory, winning the event with a time of 4:51.80, which was 29 seconds faster than his competition. In addition to his two pool records, Young also won his third event of the day in the 100-yard butterfly. He finished the race in 57.42 seconds to win by more than 2 seconds.
Conan was not the only Panther to win an event on the day, as his brother, Duncan also picked up an individual victory. Duncan won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.63, outpacing the competition by half a second. He also had a 2nd place finish in the 200-yard IM and a 3rd place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.
Eric Reynolds also had a pair of runner-up finishes. He swam the 50-yard breaststroke in 31.80 seconds, finishing 3 seconds off the pace. He also took second in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:09.47. Nathan Ryan was the final Panther to post a second-place finish, as he was runner-up in the 50-yard butterfly. His time of 27.40 was 1.86 seconds behind the winner.
Both Panther relays took third. In the medley relay, the team of Peyton Haight, Greg Tyler, Eric Reynolds, and Camden Tetenov finished with a time of 1:59.88. To finish the meet, the team of Ryan, Giulio Minerbi, Young, and Young swam the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:42.12.
The Panthers are now 1-5 in dual meets. They are scheduled to be back in action on Saturday, February 1st when they will head to Penn State-Altoona for their final dual meet of the season.
