Conan Young Wins 400 IM, Panthers Remain in 5th

Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team returned to action at the Fredonia Invitational on Saturday, as 7 Panthers qualified for the finals on Day 2. Conan Young had another strong performance, winning the 400-yard individual medley. Through 26 events, the Panthers remain in 5th place with 408 team points.

Conan Young continued to be the top performer for the Panthers as he took the individual title in the 400-yard individual medley. Young started strong and had a slight lead after the first two disciplines. In the breaststroke portion of the race, he fell behind, trailing by just over two and a half seconds heading into the freestyle leg. In the final two laps, Young dominated, erasing his deficit and eventually winning the race by 4.47 seconds. his final time was 4:21.42.

Two other Panthers qualified for finals in the event. Duncan Young also had a strong race, finishing in 4th with a time of 4:38.98. He also had a strong finish, coming from behind to beat the 5th-place finisher in the freestyle leg. Nathan Ryan qualified for heat b and finished at 4:57.05.

In the 200-yard freestyle, three Panthers earned a spot in the finals, with two competing in Heat B and the third in Heat C. Freshmen Peyton Haight and Dawson Mallery both qualified for Heat B. Haight finished 14th, posting a time of 2:05.05. Mallery was two spots behind him in 16th, finishing with a time of 2:11.93. Camden Tetenov swam in heat c, and took 19th in 2:10.63.

Eric Reynolds was the final swimmer to reach the finals as an individual. He qualified for Heat B in the 100-yard breaststroke. He took 16th, finishing with a time of 1:10.81.

Pitt-Bradford also fielded two teams in the 200-yard medley relay. The Panthers' top team took 11th, finishing with a time of 1:52.30. Duncan Young started the race with the backstroke, Eric Reynolds swam the breaststroke, Conan Young swam the butterfly leg, and Giulio Minerbi closed in the freestyle. The second team of Peyton Haight, Camden Tetenov, Nathan Ryan, and Dawson Mallery finished in 14th with a time of 1:58.69.

The Panthers will be back in the pool tomorrow as they bring the invitational to a close. Pitt-Bradford swimmers will compete in the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard butterfly. Preliminary rounds begin at 9:00 am with finals beginning at 5:00 p.m.
