Conan Young Sets Pool Record as Panthers Fall to Lions

Bradford, PA. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team opened up their home swimming schedule against Penn State-Behrend on Saturday, falling 174-68. Despite the loss, the Panthers found some individual glory in the meet as Conan Young broke the pool record in the 1000-yard freestyle.

Young started the meet off with his record-setting performance, winning the first men's individual race of the event. He won the 1000 with a time of 10:13.44, which was 40 seconds ahead of the competition, and broke the previous pool record by nearly two seconds. The 1000 was not Young's only win of the afternoon, as he also claimed 1st place in the 200-yard IM. He finished the multi-discipline race in 2:07.13, more than 2 seconds ahead of the nearest competition. He also posted a 23.82-second split in the 200-yard freestyle relay and swam the butterfly leg of the medley relay in 25.28 seconds.

Duncan Young also had a strong day for the Panthers picking up two runner-up finishes. He took 2nd place in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:55.60, 2 seconds behind the winner. He followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:12.88.

Sophomore Eric Reynolds picked up 5 individual points for the Panthers in the two breaststroke events. He finished 2nd in the 200 with a time of 2:34.87. He was 3rd in the 100-yard version, posting a time of 1:10.72. Payton Haight added a 3rd place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 1:06.68.

The loss drops the Panthers to 1-1 on the season. They will return to action next Saturday when they travel to Alfred STate for a tri-match with the Pioneers and Penn State-Altoona.
