Panthers Remain in 7th after Day 3 at Allegheny Empire Championships

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team remained in third place after the third day of competition at the Allegheny Empire Swimming Championships on Friday night. The Panthers had three swimmers qualify for the finals, while also fielding a team in the 400-yard medley relay.

Conan and Duncan Young both qualified for the finals in the 400-yard individual medley, with Conan qualifying in 3rd and Duncan in 11th. In the finals, Conan took 4th place in the event with a time of 4:14.86. This broke the old program record, held by Lucas Cerchario, by 0.54 seconds. Duncan was able to finish 11th, winning the second race of the night with a time of 4:30.50.

Fellow freshman Sam Wright was also able to qualify for finals in the 100-yard backstroke. He qualified 10th with a time of 56.44 seconds. In the finals, he shaved half a second off his time to finish in 55.98 seconds, but still finished 10th. 

The Panthers closed the night with a 7th-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:58.74. Wright swam the opening backstroke leg in 56.64 seconds. Conan Young swam the breaststroke leg in 1:08.27 before Duncan young finished the Butterfly in 1:00.81. Owen Fitzsimmons closed the relay with a 53.02-second split in freestyle.

The Panthers finish night three with 181 points and are in 7th place. They will have one more day of competition on Saturday with preliminary rounds beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the finals at 5:00 p.m.
