Conan Young Shatters Program Record in 500, Panthers in 7th after Day 2

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team was back in the pool for the second day of the Allegheny Empire Swimming championships.

Day two got off to a fantastic start as Conan Young set a new program record in the first race of the day. In the 500-freestyle, Young swam his preliminary round in 4:43.91, breaking his own record set during the first meet of the season. His time not only set the program mark but also gave him the top qualifying time in the preliminary round, giving him the top seed in the finals. Later that night, Young, broke the record again, shaving two more seconds off his time, finishing in 4:41.86. He finished the race in 2nd place. 

Duncan Young was the only other Panther to qualify for the finals in an individual event on day two. After qualifying for the 200-yard individual medley, Duncan finished 16th in the event, posting a personal best time of 2:04.94. 

The Panthers closed the night with two teams competing in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Pitt-Bradford's top team finished in 7th place with a time of 1:34.46. Sam Wright started the race with a 23.95-second split before Owen Fitzsimmons swam the second leg in 24.18 seconds. Duncan Young completed the third leg in 23.56 seconds and Conan Younf swam the anchor leg with the Panthers' best split at 22.77 seconds. 

The Panthers' second relay finished in 17th with a time of 1:48.35. Connor Weiss swam the opening leg in 26.12 seconds and Aiden Minch-Hick finished the second in 28.23 seconds. Matt Gullotti swam the third leg in 28.27 seconds and Camden Tetenov finished the anchor leg in 25.73.

The Panthers completed day two in 7th place with 106 points. They will be back in action Wednesday with 200-yard individual events. Preliminary rounds begin at 10:00 a.m. with finals beginning at 5:00 p.m.
