Panthers Kick Off Allegheny Empire Championships

Webster, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team began its time at the Allegheny Empire Swimming Championships on Wednesday evening. The Panthers picked up 40 points as they had two teams compete in the 200-yard medley relay during the short opening session.

 The Panthers' first relay team took 7th, finishing with a time of 1:48.48. Sam Wright started the race with a 26.85-second split in the backstroke and Conan Young swam the breaststroke leg in 31.31. Duncan Young got the Panthers on track with a 26.50-second butterfly leg before Owen Fitzsimmons finished with a strong 23.82-second freestyle leg to close the race. 

The Panthers' second relay added 8 points, finishing in 17th with a time of 2:06.09. Aiden Minch-Hick swam the opening backstroke leg in 37.79 seconds before Matt Gullotti completed the breaststroke leg in 33.004 seconds. Connor Weiss finished the butterfly leg in 29.54 seconds, and Camden Tetenov closed the race with a 25.72-second freestyle leg.

After the first day of competition, the Panthers are in 8th place with 40 points. They will look to move up in the standings on day two as individual competition begins. Preliminary rounds begin at 10:00 a.m., while finals will resume at 5:00 p.m.
