Panthers Split Trimeet at Penn State-Altoona

Altoona, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team returned to action on Saturday as they traveled to Altoona, Pa. for a trimeet with hosts Penn State-Altoona and Chatham. The Panthers fell to the hosts 145-55 but picked up a 110-45 win over Chatham.

Conan Young was the strongest competitor for the Panthers as he collected 1 event win, a 2nd place finish, and a 4th place finish. Young won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.34. he was more than five seconds faster than the next competitor. In the 200 free, Young took 2nd with a time of 1:51/20. He finished 1.55 seconds off the pace. He added a 4th place finish in a tight 100 free that saw four competitors finish within 2 seconds. He also had the best split of the Panthers' 200-yard freestyle relay, swimming the third leg in 24.09 seconds. 

Duncan Young took 2nd in the 20-yard backstroke to go along with a pair 4th place finishes. He swam the 200-yard backstroke in 2:10.31. His two 4th place finishes came in the 100-yard backstroke (1:1.01) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.73). He swam the anchor leg in the freestyle relay, posting a split of 24.35.

Sam Wright also had a 2nd place finish in the meet. his time of 59.92 in the 100-back was just .18 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher. He also added a 4th place finish in the 50-free (24.46) and 5th in the 100-free (53.69). He led off the freestyle relay with a split of 24.72 seconds.

Connor Weiss had a strong day in the breaststroke events, posting a 3rd place finish in the 200 (2:51.9) and 4th in the 100 (1:17.87). He also successfully swam the butterfly leg of the medley relay with a split of 31.61 seconds.

Owen Fitzsimmons successfully completed 2 individual events and 2 relay legs to pick up valuable points for the Panthers. Matt Gullotti swam three events and Aiden Minch-Hick swam in two.

The Panthers are now 6-5-1 in head-to-head competition. They will host Medaille next Saturday for their final head-to-head meet of the season. The action is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. and will include a senior day celebration.
