Panthers Sweep Trimeet at Buffalo State

Buffalo, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team picked up a pair of victories on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Buffalo State and Wells at a tri-meet. They defeated the hosts, Buffalo State 113-89, and breezed past Wells 151-29.

The Panthers started their day with an uncontested victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Owen Fitzsimmons, Matt Gullotti, Connor Weiss, and Aiden Minch-Hick were able to successfully swim the relay in 2:13.88 to put the Panthers ahead early. 

Reigning AMCC Swimmer of the Week Conan Young picked up another two individual victories for the Panthers. He began his day with a two-second victory in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:51.23. His other victory was in the  200-yard individual medley, where his time of 2:08.39 seconds was nearly a second ahead of his competition. He added a 2nd place finish in the 100-yard freestyle and swam the anchor leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay, which took 2nd. 

Sam Wright also had a pair of 1st place finishes for Pitt-Bradford. Wright picked up wins in the 50 and 100-yard back stroke events. He won the 50 by. 29 seconds, posting a time of 28.09. After a tight 2nd place finish in the 50-free, finishing .33 seconds behind the winner in 24.94, he won the 100-yard backstroke by 5 seconds. He posted a time of 1:00.60. He finished his day by posting the Panther's best split in the 400-yard freestyle relay. He swam the lead leg in the relay in 53.79 seconds. 

The Panthers picked up 2 other event wins. Connor Weiss won the closest race of the day in the 50-yard breaststroke. his time of 34.97 seconds was just three-hundredths of a second ahead of the next finisher. Duncan Young added a dominating win in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 5:17.36, winning the race by over 22 seconds. 

The Panthers now have a head-to-head record of 5-5-1. They will return to action next weekend as they travel to Penn State-Altoona for a quad meet with the hosts, Franciscan and Chatham. The action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21st.
