Panthers Finish 2nd in Florida

West Palm Beach, Fla. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team finished in 2nd place at the Collegiate Invitational Sprint Meet in Town, Florida. In a warm weather, outdoor event, the Panthers competed against swimmers from Ohio Wesleyan, The College of Saint Rose, and Wells. The Panthers finished with 175.5team points. The winners, Ohio Wesleyan scored 393 points, while Saint Rose tallied 268 and Wells accumulated 135.

The Panthers started with the 200-yard individual medley, where Conan and Duncan Young took 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Conan was out-touched at the wall, finishing the race in 2:09.44, just .04 seconds after the winner. Duncan finished in 2:16.34. Conan added a 7th place finish in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.3 and also swam in the 200-yard medley relay, which took 3rd place. Duncan also swam in the relay, while adding a 7th-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke. He finished the backstroke in 30.32.

Sam Wright added a 3rd place finish in the 50-yard backstroke, finishing in 28.67 seconds, less than two seconds off the pace. He took 7th in the 50 free with a time of 25.24 and swam the lead leg in the medley relay. Owen Fitzsimmons completed three events for the Panthers, finishing the 50-yard backstroke in 34.17 to take 9th and the freestyle in 26.49 to take 10th. He swam the anchor leg in the relay.

Connor Weiss swam in two events for the Panthers, finishing the 50-yard butterfly in 12th with a time of 32.56 and the breaststroke in 35.52 seconds for 6th place. Camden Tetenov took 12th in the freestyle with a time of 28.19 seconds and 9th in the breaststroke in 37.48 seconds. Matt Gullotti rounded out the competitors for the Panthers, swimming the breaststroke in 36.73, good for 8th place.

The Panthers will soon head north and return to action next weekend when they host Roberts Wesleyan in a dual match on Saturday. The action is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
