Pitt-Bradford Men's Swimming Splits Trimeet

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team picked up one win and one loss on Saturday afternoon, as they hosted Alfred State and Wells in a tri-meet in the Duke Aquatic Center. They fell to the Alfred State Pioneers 165-59 while defeating the Wells Express 59-16.

The Panthers struggled to keep up with the Pioneers, as they were unable to pick up any victories in contested events, yet still had a strong showing as they showed some improvement in their personal performances after a prolonged holiday break. The best race of the day came in the 1650 freestyle as Conan Young battled Avenn Toledo from Alfred State to a close finish. The swimmers were inseparable for 64 lengths before Young was unable to keep up with Toledo in the final two laps, finishing just under 2 seconds behind him. His time was 17:43.12. He also took first-place points in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.54 seconds and swam the Panthers' best leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 52.18 seconds.

Owen Fitzsimmons took first-place points in the 500, finishing in 6:01.90 and also finished in 6th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.89 seconds. Sam Wright took fourth in a hotly contested 50-freestyle, as his time of 24.77 seconds was just a second behind the winner. He also picked up a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.19.

The Panthers are now 3-3-1 halfway through their season. They will go on break for finals and the holidays before traveling to Florida for winter training camp. They will return to competition on Saturday, January 14th when they host Roberts Wesleyan.
