Panthers Victorious at Washington and Jefferson

Washington, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team was back competing in the pool on Saturday, as they traveled to Washington and Jefferson for a dual meet. The Panthers defeated Presidents 127-99.

The Panthers got off to a quick start as they were able to win the 400-yard medley relay by two seconds. Pitt-Bradford trailed the race through two legs before Duncan Young beat his opponent by 8 seconds in the butterfly leg, giving the Panthers enough of a cushion to win the race. Along with his success in the medley relay, Young also won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:56.66 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:30.69.. He also added a 2nd place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:15.75. He totaled 33 points on the day.

Duncan's brother Conan also had a strong day, picking up the maximum 38 points. He won two events uncontested, finishing the 1000-free in 10:50.04 and the 400-yard IM in 4:35.45. In his only contested individual race, the 100-yard freestyle by over a second with a time of 53.05 seconds. 

Sam Wright also picked up 33 points, winning two events along with swimming in the medley relay. Wright won the 50-free in 25.13 seconds and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:13.26. He also had a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:00.24, just over a second behind the winner. He also swam the lead backstroke leg in the medley relay in 59.21 seconds.

The Panthers are now 2-2-1 on the season following their win over the Presidents. They will return to action in the Duke Aquatic Center for their final meet of the Fall semester on Saturday, December 3rd. They will host a tri-meet against Alfred State and Wells. Action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
