Panthers Open Season with Draw

Fredonia, N.Y. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swim team began its season on Saturday, earning a 79-79 draw at Fredonia.

"I was very impressed with the times we were able to put on the board with only a short amount of preseason training," said head coach Chelsea Schwab. "We're already seeing where our strengths and weaknesses are and where we need to focus our training."

The Panthers were led by their talented freshman class, who picked up 5 event wins. Duncan and Conan Young each picked up 33 meet points in the game, winning their individual events, while taking 1st in an uncontested freestyle relay and 2nd in the medley relay. Duncan picked up the first win, taking the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.79. He followed this up with a win in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing the event with a time of 53.88 seconds. Conan won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.19 seconds and then took the 500-yard freestyle in 5:06.87. 

The Panthers also picked up 7 points in both the 200-yard and 50-yard freestyle events. Sam wright took 2nd in the 200 with a time of 2:02.47 and was followed by Connor Weiss. Thomas Burk finished the 50 in 28.91 seconds, with Aiden Minch-Hick just behind him at 29.77. The 200-yard relay team of Wright, Owen Fitzsimmons, Young, and Young finished in 1:38.96.

The Panthers will have the remainder of the month to train, before returning to action on Friday, October 28thm when they host Medaille.
