Panthers Fall to Medaille in Thriller

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's swimming team fell to Medaille 76-70 in a thrilling home finale on Thursday afternoon.

The Panthers jumped ahead early due to an uncontested medley relay and an Owen Fitzsimmons win in the 200-yard freestyle. Medaille was able to even the match-up with success in the short freestyle events. The Mavericks took the lead for good with a tight victory in the 500-yard freestyle and 15 points earned in the 100-yard breaststroke to clinch the victory.

Hunter Deible had a strong day for the Panthers as he won two events and was part of the Panthers' 400-yard freestyle relay team. Deible picked up victories in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke. Deible won the butterfly over teammate CJ Faris with a time of 1:08.54. Faris finished just behind him at 1:10.42. He followed this up with a 4-second victory in the backstroke with a time of 1:16.60. He swam the lead leg in the relay, posting a 32.06 split.

Owen Fitzsimmons also picked up an event win and swam in both relays. Fitzsimmons won the 200-yard freestyle in dominating fashion, finishing 10 seconds ahead of his opponent. He finished with a time of 2:06.41. He swam the freestyle leg of the medley relay in 27.60 seconds and posted the fastest leg in the freestyle relay with a time of 27.44.

Connor Weiss took 3rd in the 100-yard breaststroke and swam in both relays, totaling 25 points. CJ Faris swam in the medley relay and posted two second-place finishes in the 400-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly, while Matt Copfer had two 3rd place finishes in the freestyle sprint events.

The Panthers will wrap up their regular season over the weekend with a tri-meet against Buffalo State and SUNY Geneseo before preparing for the AMCC Championship meet. The tri-meet will be hosted by Buffalo State on Saturday, January 29th.
