Hansen Sets 500-Freestyle School Record During AMCC Championships Day Two

ERIE, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford swim teams wrapped up day two of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at Penn State-Behrend Thursday.

"We swam otherworldly tonight," Head Coach Doug Alban said. "Caleb's swim was off the charts and we had awesome swims on our relays. I can't wait to see what is still to come in the next two days."

The Pitt-Bradford men's team holds third place in the conference with 90 points. Penn State-Behrend is in the lead with 316 points while Alfred State is second with 160 points.

Penn State-Altoona (85) and SUNY Delhi (44) trail the Panthers.

Caleb Hansen's performance in the 500-freestyle highlighted the day's events for Pitt-Bradford.

During the morning's preliminaries, Hansen broke the Pitt-Bradford school record with a time of 4:53.88, beating the previous top time of 4:55.04.

Then in the night's finals events, he took another four seconds off the top time and re-broke the record with a time of 4:49.92, which was good for sixth place in the event.

The Panthers saw a strong showing in the 400-medley relay as the team of Hansen, Noah Frederick, Chris Troll and Devyn Condon grabbed second place with a time of 3:40.53, trimming eight seconds from their seed time. 

Frederick qualified for the 200-IM finals and finished atop the 'B' final for seventh place with a time of 2:06.75. 

Pitt-Bradford's first action of the night came in the 200-freestyle relay. The team of Troll, Frederick, Condon and Hansen finished fourth with a time of 1:50.84.

Friday morning's prelims will be the 400-IM, 100-butterfly, 200-freestyle, 100-breaststroke and 100-backstroke. Included in the evening's finals will be the 200-medley relay. Prelims start at 10 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m.
