Swim teams split meet with Mansfield, Wells

ST. AURORA, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford swim teams hit the lanes on Saturday in New York and came away with a split for the men's and women's squads. The men defeated Wells College 50-29, while the women fell to Wells 53-36, and to Mansfield University 63-30.

The men collected a total of eight victories versus the Express. The 200 medley relay squad consisting of Corey Koss, Jeff Cattoni, Felipe Suntaxi and Alex Renwick swam a 1:44.97 to defeat Wells by roughly 23 seconds.

Renwick then collected his first solo victory in the 1000 free with a final time of 11:04.24. Suntaxi was next to receive an individual win, this one coming in the 200 free. He swam a 1:53.78 to out-duel teammate Zack France to the finish.

In the 12th event, Renwick again snagged first place. This time in the 100 butterfly he finished with a time of 56.41 in the finals to defeat Wells' Shawn Snell by 24 seconds.

With the 100 back on tap as the 16th event, France claimed the top spot with a 1:03.92 to edge Wells' Alex Lamphear to the wall. Koss earned his solo victory in the 500 free with a final time of 5:08.93 for the Panthers' sixth win.

The 100 breast was next and Richie Brand grabbed the win with a 1:23.73 to beat Wells' Tyler Lewis. Lewis clocked in at 1:24.10. The final win for the men came in the final event, the 200 free relay. Suntaxi, France, Cattoni and Koss were the group to record the top finish with a time of 1:34.51.

The women claimed victory in three events. The first event to have Pitt-Bradford's name in the top spot was the 50 free. Ann Confer clocked in at 25.93 in the finals to defeat Wells' Olive Touron.

Elizabeth Prager swam her way to victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.10. Her outstretched fingertips touched the wall just 0.21 seconds ahead of Wells' Kaitlyn Schwend.

The final win came in the final event, the 200 free relay. The group consisting of Wehonna Toth, Alexa Holleran, Prager and Confer defeated Mansfield's top squad with a final mark of 1:48.42.

The Panthers return to the lanes on Saturday, Jan. 24. Pitt-Bradford faces Alfred State at the Paul C. Duke III Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.
