Men's Basketball to Host Penn State-Behrend in Season Finale

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball season will come to a close on Saturday as they host Penn-State Behrend in their final game of the season.

The Panthers are coming off of a tight 6 point loss to AMCC foe D'Youville in their midweek matchup. They erased a 9 point halftime deficit but were unable to hold on late, losing the game 84-78. Nick Carmichael led the Panthers with 19 points and 11 rebounds. It was his fourth double-double of the season. The freshman has been a steady presence in the Panther lineup, as he hs led the Panthers in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Carmichael has improved his play against conference opponents, increasing those averages to 13.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest against AMCC teams. 

The Lions enter the matchup locked into the 3rd seed for the upcoming AMCC tournament. They are 17-7 overall with a 14-5 record in AMCC play. In their midweek game, Penn State-Behrend defeated Hilbert by a score of 77-61. The Lions are the top defensive team in the conference, allowing opponents to score just 64.9 points per game. They are led offensively by junior Kenny Fukon, who is averaging 16.3 points per game, good for 6th in the conference rankings. Devin Pope and DJ Gourley also average double-digit points per game, scoring 11.3 and 10.2 points per game respectively.

In their contest earlier this season, the Lions breezed to a 78-47 victory. Gourley and Mitchell King scored 16 for Penn State-Behrend, while Fukon added 13. Alex Breindel led the Panthers with 13 points and Miles Parker scored 10 points off the bench.

Along with the action on the court, the Pitt-Bradford Student Peer Educators will be providing information to spectators on Alcohol Abuse Awareness. Additionally, they will be holding a halftime free-throw shooting contest in which contestants will attempt to make free throws while wearing alcohol impairment goggles. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
