BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford men's basketball team hung with Medaille in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opener much of the way Wednesday at the KOA Arena, but ultimately, the Mavericks pulled away, 79-60.

"We had some really good moments tonight on both ends of the court, but we just couldn't sustain it for the full 40 minutes," Head Coach Ryan Shay said. "I thought George, Zach and Ugwunna really elevated our defense. Medaille does a good job of dictating the style of play and we weren't quite prepared for it. Once we caught our breath, I thought we really competed well. Reggie had another good night being aggressive offensively, but we need to get a few other guys involved."

With the result, the Panthers fall to 1-3 overall this season while the Mavericks improve to 1-4.

Reggie Rogers led all scorers with 20 points, while Desmond Brogsdale dropped 10 points, dished five assists and collected six boards.

Zach Reigel chipped in eight points on 4-5 shooting for the Panthers.

Medaille came out firing early in the first half, opening up a 21-6 deficit seven minutes into the contest.

But Pitt-Bradford fought back with a run of its own. A layup from Rogers at the 8:35 mark brought the score to within single-digits, 26-17.

The Panthers eventually closed out the half on a 10-4 run capped by a layup from Reigel, and the two teams went into the break with the Mavericks holding a 41-34 advantage.

Five minutes into the second half with the Panthers down seven, a Medaille technical foul allowed for five-straight Pitt-Bradford points to cut the lead to 48-46.

But, Medaille would hold the Panthers off using a pair of free-throws and later a 6-0 run to gain a 58-49 advantage mid-way through the closing half.

The Mavericks would never surrender the lead and eventually secured the victory.

Pitt-Bradford shot 50 percent to Medaille's 46.7 percent in the second half, connecting on 15 of 30 attempts from the floor. But four Mavs' three-balls and 10 free-throws in the closing half proved to be the difference, as the Panthers connected on two three-pointers and went 4-8 from the line.

The Panthers out-shot Medaille overall in the contest, 44.6 percent to 43.3 percent.

Oumar Sanogo was the team's leading rebounder, collecting nine misses in 22 minutes off the bench.

Up next, Pitt-Bradford will play its first AMCC road test as it heads to Penn State-Behrend Saturday.
