Five Panthers Garner All-Conference Honors

Bradford, Pa. – The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released its 2024 All-Conference selections on Tuesday morning and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Baseball team had 5 players honored by the conference, the most in one season for the program since 2006.

Shawn Mannering made the 1st Team, Evan Fragela, and Branson Scarantine earned spots on the 2nd Team and Maxwell Rogers and Noah Avey were voted to the 3rd team.

Mannering, a junior, had a fantastic year for the Panthers as the team’s ace pitcher and was recognized as one of the top three pitchers in the AMCC. For the season, he posted a 6-4 record with a 3.58 ERA and a regular-season-leading 65 strikeouts. Against AMCC opponents, he was 3-2 with 2 complete game wins. He posted a 3.38 ERA with 33 strikeouts over 32.0 innings. He was named AMCC Pitcher of the Week one time. It is his first all-conference selection.

Senior catcher Evan Fragela made his third and final appearance on the All-Conference list, making the 2nd team as a catcher. Fragela led the Panthers with a .338 batting average with 4 home runs, 26 RBI, and 8 doubles, leading the Panthers in all of those categories. He also scored 25 runs, stole 5 bases, and threw out 11 runners stealing. Against AMCC opponents, he hit .355 with 1 home run, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored. He was named AMCC Player of the Week one time. He made the first team in 2023 and the third team in 2022, both as a catcher.

Branson Scarantine had a surprise season out of the Panther bullpen, earning 2nd team all-conference honors as a relief pitcher. Scarantine made 8 appearances for the Panthers, totaling 12.2 innings pitched. He posted a 1-1 record, allowing only 1 earned run to score. He struck out 5 batters. He was even better in Conference play, pitching 6.1 innings over 5 appearances without allowing a run to score. He had a 1-0 record and struck out 2 batters. It is his first all-conference selection.

Junior Maxwell Rogers was voted to the 3rd team as an outfielder, despite missing the last 7 games of the season through injury. Rogers hit .337 with 3 home runs, 20 RBI, 20 runs scored, and 4 stolen bases. In 9 conference games, he hit .345 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. This is his first all-conference selection.

Noah Avey was the final Panther to earn all-conference honors as a utility player. The sophomore student who joined the program from Geneva College this season. Avey split time at three positions throughout the year, playing games at catcher, first base, and as a designated hitter. Avey posted an average of .250 with 15 RBI, 10 runs scored, and 6 doubles. In AMCC play, he hit .229 with 9 RBI and 2 runs scored.

The Panthers finished the year with a 12-24 record including a 5-11 mark in AMCC play. They finished the season in 9th place and were 2 games from playoff qualification.
