Panther Baseball Falls at La Roche

Panther Baseball Falls at La Roche

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team brought its AMCC regular-season schedule to a close, losing to La Roche 14-0 in the opener and 10-0 in the second.

Game 1:

  • The Panthers fell behind the regular-season champions quickly, as the Redhawks tagged starting pitcher Reid Tarnowski for two runs in the first inning.
  • Pitt-Bradford got their first hit of the day in the 2nd when Evan Fragela beat out an infield single to third base. He was not able to advance any further as the Redhawks retired the next two batters on a pop-up in the infield and a groundout to first.
  • The Panthers threatened to score in the 3rd as well. Kevin Rehak doubled to the gap in left-center with one out and moved to third on a groundout. He was stranded at third when Nico Hall flew out to center to end the inning.
  • The Redhawks opened the game up with 6 runs in the third. After a leadoff walk, the panthers used a home run, two more free passes, a double, and a single to chase Tarnowski. Tarnowski was replaced by Ben Mulhall who allowed an inherited runner to score on an infield single but saw the inning end when catcher Jake McNabb threw out a baserunner stealing.
  • Sam Dreistadt drew a lead-off walk in the 4th and moved to second when Fragela picked up his second hit of the day, a single to left. However, the Panthers were unable to bring a run around as the Redhawks got a strikeout and a grounder to 2nd to end the inning
  • LaRoche was able to tack on 6 more runs over 2 and 2/3 innings against Mulhall. They scored one in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, and saw Mulhall replaced after three more in the 6th.
  • Wyatt Rugar entered and got the final out of the inning with a fly ball to center.
  • Tarnowski (0-4) picked up the loss after allowing 8 runs, 5 earned, in 2 and 2/3 innings of work. He gave up 7 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 2 batters.
  • Mulhall pitched 3 full innings in relief, allowing 6 earned runs on 7 hits and 4 walks.
  • Rugar threw two pitches to record an out in his second appearance of the season.
  • Evan Fragela finished 2 for 3 with 2 singles.
  • Kevin Rehak went 1 for 2 with a double.

Game 2:

  • The second game of the day saw the Panthers' offense continue to struggle. They were only able to record one hit and draw 3 walks in the 9 inning contest.
  • Starting pitcher Alex Miles (1-1) started strong but saw the relentless La Roche offense tag him for 5 runs in 5 innings. He allowed 5 runs, 4 earned on 7 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 3 batters.
  • Kyler Majka pitched 2 innings in relief, allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 3 walks. He also struck out three batters.
  • Ben Suter pitched the final inning for the Panthers and allowed 4 runs on 3 hits.
  • Evan Fragela picked up the lone hit for the Panthers, a leadoff single to left in the 5th.
  • Kevin Rehak finished 0-1 but reached twice on walks.

The Panthers fall to 5-13 on the season with a 3-11 record in conference play. They have finished the regular season in 8th place. Final seedings for the AMCC tournament will be released following 2 sets of doubleheaders to be played on Sunday.
