CRESSON, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team got the best of a high-scoring contest, 17-11, at Mount Aloysius Sunday to earn an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory.
The two teams were set to play a doubleheader, but game two was postponed due to heavy fog.
Austin Parent continued his red-hot weekend at the dish, hammering his second grand slam and fourth total home run of the weekend. In total, he went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, four runs scored and two doubles overall.
In the week's five games, Parent hit five home runs driving in 14 runs and scoring 13 with seven extra-base hits and a staggering 1.304 slugging percentage.
Aiding the 17-run effort was a two-hit day from Tyler Hoops, who also drove in a pair of runs and scored as many.
Dalton Renn knocked a two-run double and scored twice. He also picked up the win on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings while striking out one. As the Panthers' regular third baseman, the victory on the hill is the first of his career.
Pitt-Bradford is now 10-9 overall with a 4-3 mark in AMCC play.
Of the Panthers' 10 wins this season, eight have come scoring 10 or more runs.
Pitt-Bradford has scored 173 runs all season, averaging 9.1 per game.
The Panthers scored the first run of the ballgame in the top of the first as Parent doubled home Hoops.
The Mounties grabbed a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second, but the Panthers quickly regained the lead in the top of the third.
Renn knocked a two-run double, scoring Parent and Sawyer Packard.
The Panthers then broke the game open with a 10-run fourth inning.
Hoops got the scoring started with an RBI single that scored Brody Wood.
Parent then drove his grand slam to left centerfield, giving the Panthers an 8-2 lead.
Renn later scored on an error, and Jason Lucarelli scored Jay Clinger with an RBI infield single.
A two-run single from Samuel Dreistadt and another RBI single from Hoops rounded out the 10-run inning, and the Panthers took a 12-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth.
In the top of the fifth, the Wood sent home Parent on a ball in play, and in the sixth, Packard sent home Dreistadt on an RBI single and Renn and Parent scored on an error to put the Panthers ahead 17-2.
The Mounties would not go quietly, though. Using eight hits, they put up a seven-spot in the bottom of the sixth. Mount Aloysius got two more in the seventh, but the 17 Panther runs were too much to overcome as Pitt-Bradford held on for the victory.
Sam Gwiazdinski came on in relief of Renn in the sixth inning and got the final five outs for the Panthers.
Lucarelli worked three hits for Pitt-Bradford. Packard and Clinger also had multi-hit games.
Up next, the Panthers are scheduled to host Penn State-Behrend for a doubleheader at the Kessel Athletic Complex Tuesday starting at 1 p.m.
