LEWISTON, N.Y. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team picked up its first two Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference wins as it defeated Hilbert in both sides of a cold, windy doubleheader at Niagara University.

"It was good to be back out on a baseball diamond," Head Coach Zach Foster said. "Makes me feel sane again. The guys have been working extremely hard at keeping a good mentality with this weather and being inside. They played very well all the way around. Ryan pitched a gem in game one and our staff as a whole in game two kept us in it until our hitters broke it open. Just have to keep the momentum moving forward." 

With the two wins, the Panthers move to an even 2-2 in conference play and 8-8 overall. 

Ryan Boyer delivered his second complete game of the season in game one, tossing all seven innings while striking out 10 -- his second double-figure strikeout tally of the season. 

To aid Boyer's effort on the mound, Jay Clinger delivered an RBI and a double. Jason Lucarelli also drove in a run.

In game two, Dalton Renn delivered his fourth home run and Austin Parent drove his first homer of the season as the Panther offense put up 12 runs on 15 hits. Parent worked three hits, while Renn and Tim Brown drove in three runs apiece.

Of the Panthers' eight wins, six have come scoring 10 or more runs.

Game One: Pitt-Bradford 5, Hilbert 1

Both offenses went quiet through the first three innings until Sawyer Packard delivered the game's first base hit with a single leading off the fourth. 

He later came home to score the first run of the day on a sacrifice fly from Clinger.

Parent scored on a passed ball and Renn scored on a Hilbert defensive error off the bat of Lucarelli. Pitt-Bradford came out of the fourth with a 3-0 lead.

Hilbert earned its first hit of the ballgame in the bottom of the fifth, breaking up Boyer's no-hit effort.

Pitt-Bradford then added two more in the top of the sixth as Clinger doubled and scored on a Hilbert error off the bat of Brown, who scored himself on a sacrifice fly from Lucarelli.

Hilbert got its lone run on an RBI double in the bottom half of the frame but both teams put together a clean seventh inning and the Panthers held on for the 5-1 victory, its first conference win of 2018. 

Game Two: Pitt-Bradford 12, Hilbert 6

Pitt-Bradford got off to a strong start in game two, grabbing two runs in the top of the first on RBIs from Renn and Brown.

But Hilbert's offense came to life, the Hawks scoring three runs in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead into the second frame.

Lucarelli then led off the second with a double and Samuel Dreistadt followed suit with a bunt single. Lucarelli later scored on a Packard ground ball to tie the game.

But Hilbert regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the third, 4-3.

After a clean fourth, the Panthers put up a four-spot to take a 7-4 lead in the fifth.

Brown laced an RBI double, while Wood, Lucarelli and Tyler Hoops came through with RBIs as well.

Hilbert led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run and grabbed one more run in the frame, but that would be all the Hawks would get in the contest as Pitt-Bradford only built on its 7-6 lead from that point on.

Brown drove home Parent in the sixth, and Renn stepped in and delivered a two-run shot that scored Parent in the eighth. 

Dreistadt scored Brown on a sacrifice fly to round out the scoring in the eighth.

Parent knocked his solo home run in the ninth to complete the Panthers' 12-run effort.

Andrew Bacha started the game for the Panthers and earned the victory.

Up next, the Panthers will head to Pitt-Greenburg for two games Saturday.
