Panthers To Host Penn State-Altoona For Home Opener Tuesday

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team is set to play its first home games of the season Tuesday as Penn State-Altoona comes to town for an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader.

Pitt-Bradford most recently opened up its AMCC schedule last Wednesday against Alfred State, falling in both games.

The two teams traded the lead in game one but ultimately Alfred State broke a 5-5 tie in the last frame of the seven-inning affair to take the win.

In game two, Pitt-Bradford scored three runs in the top of the first but the Alfred State bats stayed hot and the Pioneers completed the sweep.

Austin Parent was a home run shy of the cycle in game two, going 3-for-4 with a single, triple, double, three RBIs and a run scored.

Parent and Sawyer Packard are tied for second in the AMCC with 16 RBIs.

On the conference's batting average rankings, Parent is third with a .420 average while Tyler Hoops is fifth at .404.

Ryan Boyer continues to be the ace of the Panthers' staff, leading the team with 27.2 innings pitched in five starts. His 2.93 ERA is fifth-best in the AMCC, while his 35 strikeouts are second most in the conference.

Andrew Bacha is another regular starter for the Panthers on the mound, delivering 24.2 innings pitched in four starts and five appearances while striking out 16.

Penn State-Altoona enters the week with a 4-10 overall record. The Lions opened up AMCC play splitting with Hilbert Saturday. They will host Pitt-Greensburg Monday prior to traveling to Pitt-Bradford. Entering the week, Peter Jacobs leads the team with .373 batting average. Jim Shomberg and George Stiuso are the team's top run producers with 14 RBIs apiece.

Tuesday's games are set to begin at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
