FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team split its two games Tuesday, first falling to Saint John's before turning around for a high-scoring win over Bluffton.

"We bounced back today after facing a tough Saint John's team," Head Coach Zach Foster said. "I tasked the guys to flush the first game and come out swinging and they answered the call all the way around in game two. I'm proud of the way they grinding the day out. These guys deserve the credit. It was a good split."

Dalton Renn homered in each game to lead the Panther offense for the day. He now has three on the year – one in each of the last three games.

Pitt-Bradford knocked 26 hits in the 21-14 win over Bluffton in game two, which tops last season's high of 23 in the season opener against Juniata on Feb. 25, 2017.

Tyler Hoops and Tim Brown had four hits apiece in game two, while Sawyer Packard, Dalton Renn, Austin Parent and Brody Wood each had three hits.

On the mound, Nate Renick earned his first victory of the season.

Through the Panthers' first six games of the season, they are 5-1 and averaging a staggering 12.6 runs per game.

As a team, they're hitting .373 while slugging .552.

Opponents are hitting just .205 against Panther pitching.

Game one: Saint John's 13, Pitt-Bradford 1

The two teams went quiet in the first two innings before Saint John's scored its first two runs of the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple and RBI single.

Later down 10-0 in the seventh inning, Dalton Renn stepped in and knocked a solo home run on the first pitch he saw to give Pitt-Bradford its lone run of the contest.

Three more runs from Saint John's in the eighth gave the Johnnies the eventual 13 runs they'd use to complete the victory.

Pitt-Bradford scattered six hits in the contest led by a pair from Tim Brown. Tyler Hoops, Sawyer Packard, Dalton Renn and Austin Parent had a hit apiece.

Alex Andrzejewski started the game on the mound for the Panthers, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up seven runs and striking out one.

Benjamin Hayes threw 2.2 innings in relief and Tom Easton came in for the final inning. Each surrendered three runs while Hayes struck out three batters he faced.

Game two: Pitt-Bradford 21, Bluffton 14

The Panthers stormed out to seven runs in the top of the first inning.

Hoops scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game, then Parent walked with the bases loaded to score Packard.

Brown then knocked a two-run single and Parent scored on a throwing error by the Bluffton pitcher.

Wood tripled to score Brown and later came home on a sac fly from Samuel Dreistadt.

Bluffton got three back -- one run in the bottom of the first and two more in the second.

The Panthers bounced back in a big way in the top of the third.

Dreistadt, Packard and Clinger each lined a two-run double. Brown and Wood came through with RBI singles to highlight the Panthers' second seven-run inning of the game.

Three more runs came across in the fourth for the Panthers as Clinger worked an RBI single while Dalton Renn and Parent had RBI doubles to put the Panthers ahead, 17-3.

Bluffton stayed in it, though, with six runs in the sixth inning.

Pitt-Bradford got four of the runs back in the top of the eighth. Dalton Renn's home run led off the inning, and Brown followed up with an RBI single.

Jason Lucarelli doubled home Brown, and Hoops scored Wood on a single.

Bluffton answered, though, with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and added two more in the bottom of the ninth but the Panthers held on for the 21-14 win.

Renick started the game and tossed five innings while striking out three.

Drake Renn came on in relief and threw an inning, and Sam Gwiazdinski threw the last three innings.

Up next, the Panthers will play Baldwin Wallace and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Friday.
