FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team kicked off its Florida trip with a pair of big wins over Hiram Sunday. 

With the sweep, the Panthers improve to 4-0 and remain unbeaten in 2018.

"The bats continued to roll today," Head Coach Zach Foster said. "It was fun to watch. It takes the pressure off our pitchers when we come out and score right away. Bacha and Boyer both threw very well and our pen guys came in and got the job done to finish the games. I'm proud of the way the guys are playing."

Pitt-Bradford has now scored double-digit runs in each of its last three games and its hitting .362 as a team while holding opponents to .264.

Andrew Bacha and Ryan Boyer earned victories on the mound for the Panthers.

Jay Clinger and Dalton Renn both homered in the second game to help power the Panther offense.

As a team, the Panthers knocked five extra-base hits in the two games.

Brody Wood had a multi-hit game in each of the day's contests.

Game One: Pitt-Bradford 18, Hiram 3

Pitt-Bradford went quiet in the first but stormed out to three runs in the second as Samuel Dreistadt came in on a wild pitch for the first run of the game. Sawyer Packard then delivered a two-run base knock that scored Robert Sawicki and Wood.

An RBI single from Dreistadt that scored Dalton Renn in the third put the Panthers ahead 4-0.

Hiram earned its first score of the game with an RBI double in the fourth, and they cut the Panthers' lead in half with another run in the fifth, 4-2.

But Pitt-Bradford would get them back with a pair in the fifth as Austin Parent delivered an RBI double and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Wood.

11 walks from the Hiram pitching staff led to 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth to open up the game for Pitt-Bradford.

A two-run single from Parent highlighted the inning and the Panthers took their 18-3 lead into the seventh. 

Benjamin Hayes worked a scoreless frame on the mound and the Panthers held on to earn their third-straight win to start the season. Hayes struck out two over his pair of innings in relief.

At the plate, Clinger, Brown and Wood had two hits apiece.

Brown drove in four runs while Wood and Packard drove in three to lead the Panther offense.

Bacha started the game and gave the Panthers five innings of two-run ball while striking out three.

Game two: Pitt-Bradford 13, Hiram 4 

The Panthers picked up right where they left off with three loud runs in the top of the first. 

With Packard aboard, Clinger stepped in and pulled a long drive to deep right field that cleared the fence for the team's first home run of the season.

The Panthers built on their lead as Parent scored on a booted ball hit by Wood.

Pitt-Bradford added a run in the second as Hoops knocked home Jason Lucarelli with a single to right.

The Panthers broke the game open with a five-spot in the fourth.

Lucarelli singled home Wood, then Packard sent Lucarelli home with a double. Clinger later scored Hoops on a fly ball.

Dalton Renn delivered the big blow with his first home run of the season, a moon-shot that nearly landed in the next field beyond the left field fence.

After a lead-off single from Hiram in the bottom of the fifth, Boyer struck out the next three batters to cap his outing and turn it over to Drake Renn for the sixth inning.

Pitt-Bradford scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth on a two-run single from Parent. 

Hiram saw its first run of the game go on the board in the bottom of the sixth as Drake Renn walked a batter with the bases loaded.

The final two runs of the day for the Panthers came in the seventh inning as Wood scored on an error by the Hiram left fielder and Collin Buckwalter knocked home Nick Bolvsky on a sacrifice fly.

Hiram added three in the seventh and Sam Gwiazdinski came on in relief to get the final outs and secure the wins.

Of the Panthers' 11 hits, Hoops, Wood and Lucarelli led the way with two apiece.

Clinger was the top run producer with three RBIs while Dalton Renn and Parent knocked in a pair of runs each.

On the mound, Boyer tossed five scoreless innings striking out eight while surrendering five hits.

Drake Renn and Gwiazdinski each struck out a batter in their relief outings.

Up next, the Panthers will play Saint John's (Minn.) and Bluffton Tuesday.
