ALFRED, N.Y. - Alfred State defeated the Pitt-Bradford baseball team, 10-4, Sunday in a non-conference nine-inning affair.

Pioneer starter Lucas Cornell stymied the Panther lineup, yielding just a pair of hits over the first seven innings. He pitched into the eighth with a three-run lead before being lifted with one out.

At the plate, Alfred State outhit Pitt-Bradford 10-4 and took advantage of five Panther errors. The Pioneers also traded runs with the Panthers in each inning the Blue and Gold scored, thwarting any chance of a comeback.

Alfred State led 3-0 after two innings, in part to a pair of early Panther defensive miscues. Dalton Renn successfully stole home in the fourth to make it 3-1, but another error allowed the Pioneers to score on a sacrifice fly in its half of the inning.

Renn doubled in Brock Blovsky in the sixth, and an error by the Pioneers' left outfielder allowed Renn to score on the play, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

Alfred State matched the Panthers with two runs in its half of frame. Thomas Easton retired the first two hitters but gave up a two-out walk and plunked the next batter. Both runners moved up on an Easton wild pitch and scored on Thomas Shofi's single, stretching the lead to 6-3.

John Morgan's RBI double in the eighth pulled the Panthers within 6-4, yet the Pioneers answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to put the game away. The big blow came with two outs, a two-run home run, after a Panther error extended the inning.

Six different pitchers threw for Pitt-Bradford and combined to issue five walks. Benjamin Hayes, who started for the Panthers, took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in three innings of work. Renn accounted for two of Pitt-Bradford's four hits.

Pitt-Bradford drops to 11-20 on the season and has the week off for finals before traveling to Penn State Altoona next Saturday.
