Pitt-Bradford baseball split a non-conference doubleheader with Alfred State Sunday, winning 4-0 in the opening game before falling 12-3 in the nightcap.

Ryan Boyer tossed a four-hit shutout in the opener, the first of his career, while striking out a season-high eight. The righthander rarely found himself in trouble, only allowing three runners to advance past first base.

He surrendered a one-out base hit in the fourth and uncorked a pair of wild pitches to advance the runner to third. Boyer responded by striking out the next two Pioneer batters, including a called third strike to end the threat.

Pitt-Bradford went ahead 1-0 in the fifth on Austin Parent's bases loaded walk, and Kyle Hunt delivered the knockout punch, a two-out two-run single in the sixth inning. The Panthers stretched the lead to 4-0 in the next at bat when Alfred State was charged with a balk, scoring Brock Blovsky from third.

Boyer surrendered two hits in the top half of the seventh, but induced an infield pop-up to preserve the shutout.

Alfred State knocked around game two starter Matthew Hogue for six runs in 2.1 innings and never looked back, cruising to a nine-run victory.

The Pioneers outhit the Panthers 12-6 and took advantage of four Pitt-Bradford errors. Jay Clinger went 2-4 for the Blue and Gold and had a RBI single in the first inning. Parent collected two hits, and Hunt added a RBI groundout.

Pitt-Bradford moves to 5-13 on the season and resumes conference play Tuesday when it hosts  D'Youville at 1 p.m.
