Panthers Fall to Elmira in Home Finale

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team (12-23) fell, 7-2, to Elmira College (14-22) on Wednesday afternoon at the Kessel Athletic Complex.

Prior to the game, the Panthers honored their lone senior, Pat James, as part of Senior Appreciation Day.

Jacob Rivers led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-2 with a sacrifice fly while Brock Blovsky, Kevin Sompel and Dalton Renn added hits in the loss.

Ryan Boyer took the loss on the mound, despite tossing four solid innings. The right-hander allowed just two earned runs on six hits while striking out five over four innings of work. Abe Frech added a scoreless inning of relief out of the Panther's bullpen.

Dylan Bellinger and Nate Hanner drove in two runs each to pace the Soaring Eagle's offense while Blake Phelps earned the win with five strong innings on the bump.

Although they dropped the game, the Panthers did get on the board first, as Austin Parent scored from third on a wild pitch and Rivers sent a sacrifice fly to right field, giving UPB a 2-0 lead after two.

Elmira answered with three runs in the top of the fourth and then picked up three more in the seventh and one more in the eighth, completing the 7-2 victory.

The Panthers travel to Erie for a showdown with third-seeded Penn-State Behrend in the opening round of the 2016 AMCC Baseball Tournament on Saturday afternoon. First pitch of the best of three series is slated for 1 p.m. with game two to follow at 4 p.m. Game three, if necessary will be played Sunday.
