Panthers Fall in Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team (12-22) dropped a 10-3 decision at Elmira College (13-22) in a non-conference game at Dunn Field on Tuesday night.

Dalton Renn led the Panthers at the plate, going 2-4 with an RBI while Kevin Sompel had one hit and drove in one. Jacob Rivers, Tim Brown and Pat James chipped in with one hit each in the loss. Abe Frech tossed a scoreless inning of relief out of the UPB bullpen.

Bryce Plante led the Soaring Eagles' offense, going 4-4 with three RBI while Nick Sampogna earned the win on the mound with seven shutout innings and seven strikeouts.

Elmira came out hitting, scoring four runs in the first, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, one in the sixth and three more in the seventh to take a 10- lead into the eighth.

The Panthers scored all three of their runs in the top of the eighth. Rivers started the rally with a leadoff double and later scored on Sompel's RBI double down the right field line. UPB picked up its second run on a fielding error and Renn capped the Panther's three-run eighth with an RBI single.

The Panthers and Soaring Eagles meet again Wednesday afternoon at four at the Kessel Athletic Complex.
