FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford baseball team split a doubleheader with Edgewood College on the final day of their spring break trip to Florida. The Panthers won the opener 13-10, but dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker in extra innings in Tuesday's finale. 

Jean Turber had a huge day for the Panthers. The sophomore centerfielder went 2-4 with a grand slam and five total RBI while Tim Brown and Brock Blovsky had three hits and one RBI each. Jay Clinger, Austin Parent and Kevin Sompel added two hits each while Dalton Renn drove in one run. Every player in the lineup reached base as least once in the victory.

The Panthers came out hitting right from the start, taking a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Parent and Renn scored on wild pitches and Brown and Sompel drove in one run each in the first.

Edgewood got back in the game with three runs in the top of the third, but Blovsky extended the Panther's lead to 5-3 in the home half of the inning with an RBI single to right-center.

Turber then broke the game open with a grand slam, leading the Panthers to a six-run fifth. Renn roped an RBI double and Rivers drew a bases loaded walk in the inning as well and the Panthers led 13-5 after five.

Edgewood threatened with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, but Pitt-Bradford hung on, winning the slugfest 13-10. 

The Panthers took an early lead in the second game, but couldn't hang on.

Parent led the Panthers, going 2-4 with two RBI in the second game while Clinger drove in one run and Blovsky added two more hits in the loss. 

Ryan Boyer pitched well despite taking the loss in his first outing of the year. He went six innings and allowed just two earned runs on five hits while striking out four. 

Edgewood led 3-2 heading into the sixth inning, but the Pitt-Bradford offense made things interesting with two runs in the top of the seventh. Sompel led off the inning with a base hit, was bunted over to second by Jacob Rivers and then scored when Blovsky reached on a throwing error. Clinger then gave the Panthers a 4-3 lead with an RBI single to right-center.

Edgewood got on back on a sacrifice fly in the home half of the seventh to force extra innings and then won it on a ground ball RBI that snuck through the right side.

The Panthers finished their trip 3-5 and will travel to Ursinus for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at 12:30.
