
ALFRED, N.Y. – The Pitt-Bradford baseball team traveled to Alfred State and fell to the Pioneers 2-1.
Junior Abe Frech (Linden, NJ/UCVTS) got his first start of the season against the Pioneers and had a solid outing only giving up three hits and two runs.
Leading the offense for the Panthers was Matthew Sompel (Scranton/Scranton) who went 2-4 on the day.
The Panthers outplayed the Pioneers but ended up behind on the scoreboard.
Pitt-Bradford out-hit Alfred State 7-3 and the Panthers were solid on defense not committing a single error while the Pioneer defense had three.
The Panthers scored their only run of the game in the top of the third after a throwing error on a steal attempt by freshman Jean Turber (Northumberland/Shikellemy) lead to Turber coming around to score to give Pitt-Bradford a 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers took the lead away from the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh after an RBI double and a wild pitch gave Alfred State a 2-1 advantage.
Pitt-Bradford threatened in the ninth with two runners on but failed to convert as they fell to Alfred State, 2-1.
The Panthers will head to Berea, OH to take on Baldwin Wallace on April 30 at 1:30 p.m.
