UPB Volleyball Earns Key, 3-1, Victory at Franciscan

Steubenville, Oh. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team (11-14, 4-3) picked up a crucial 3-1 victory Saturday afternoon at defending AMCC champions Franciscan 10-16, 5-2).

The Panthers lost the first set 25-21, but battled back to capture a 25-21 victory in the second and third sets and a 25-17 victory in the fourth set to complete the 3-1 victory.

"It was a big victory for us. Our team knew the situation and they knew our playoff lives depended on what we did today," Roof said. "It all started with our hitting and our blocking. We did a nice job at the net, either getting a block or making them change their swing and I really think that was the difference for us today."

Alexis Dhayer led the Panther's attack with nine kills and four blocks while Kirsten Platz followed with seven kills and five blocks, including one solo block. Christina Rauh added 34 assists and 17 digs while Mandy Finch added seven kills and 16 digs. Alma Turpin finished with seven kills and Erin Fagan added six kills in the victory.

"Lexi was really strong for us on the right side again today," Roof said. "The key was being able to withstand their incredibly tough defense. They don't let many attacks fall and we just kept swinging."

The Panthers continue AMCC play Wednesday, as they host Medaille at 7 p.m. in the KOA Arena.

"We have two huge conference games left to play," Roof said. "We need to keep working hard, because they are must wins."
