Panthers Capture Fourth Straight Victory, Sweep DYU

BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball team picked up its fourth straight victory, sweeping D'Youville College, 3-0, in straight sets on Wednesday night at the KOA Arena.

"I thought we were focused from start to finish and that's extremely important in order to pick up a key conference victory," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Tom Roof. "I was happy with how our team responded in such a crucial game."

Kirsten Platz led the Panthers with eight kills and three blocks, including one solo block. Alma Turpin added six kills while Christina Rauh finished with six kills, 24 assists and eight digs. Mandy Finch added a team-high 17 digs and Alexis Dhayer chipped in with nine digs.

"I really think our blocks set the tone early on," Roof said. "It's also nice that we are getting solid contributions from so many different players on the attack."

The Panthers won the first two sets 25-15 and then captured a 25-23 victory in the final set to complete the sweep of the Spartans.

"We put it all together tonight," Roof said. "It all starts with a good pass, and we had plenty of those tonight," Roof said. "When we have good passes we generate a good attack and we become a tough team to beat."

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Panthers, as they host Penn State Altoona on Saturday afternoon at one.

"We still have plenty of things to work on, but I think the team has that drive to be successful," Roof said. "We have our toughest matches coming up and I'm anxious to see how we respond to the competition."
