Panthers Stay Hot, Drop Elmira 3-0

BRADFORD – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's volleyball continued its hot streak with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Elmira College on Thursday night in the KOA Arena.

The Panthers took the first 25-23, the second set 25-17, and the final set 25-21 over the Soaring Eagles.

"I thought we played well, but it certainly wasn't the best we've played all season. It's nice to be able to not be at our best and still come out with a win against a tough team," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Tom Roof. "I think we're on a little roll and they say winning is contagious, so I hope we continue to be successful once we get back into conference play."

Kirsten Platz was dominant in the front row for the Panthers, racking up six kills and four blocks. Mandy Finch followed with five kills and six digs while Christina Rauh added eight digs and five kills. Alma Turpin finished with a team-high 11 digs and Jennessa Ceprish and Alexis Dhayer added nine digs each in the victory.

The Panthers ran into a little trouble in the first set, falling to a quick 19-11 deficit. However, Pitt-Bradford battled back to tie the set at 19-19 and then hung on for a 25-23 victory on a vicious kill from Kirsten Platz.

"I think early on in that set we were just lazy," Roof said. "Our blockers weren't getting in the right position and we had some serving miscues. Luckily, we were able to get it together and win the set. That was a huge momentum boost for us."

Pitt-Bradford dominated the final two sets to complete the sweep.

"I'm really proud of how the girls played tonight," Roof said. "We showed that we can battle and still come away with the win even when we don't have our best stuff."

The Panthers return to AMCC play Wednesday night to host D'Youville at 7 p.m. in the KOA Arena.
