BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford volleyball team opened AMCC play by splitting a quad match at the KOA Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Mt. Aloysius in the first game, before dominating Pitt-Greensburg, 3-0, in the finale.
"I'm glad we were able to finish on a high note, after such a disappointing five-set loss to Mt. Aloysius in the first game," said Pitt-Bradford head coach Tom Roof. "We had the game against Mt. Aloysius in our hands, with a 2-1 lead, but we just got complacent and they took advantage of our mistakes. These games are so important and I think we learned a tough lesson today."
Erin Fagan and Alexis Dhayer led the Panthers in the victory over Pitt-Greensburg, racking up six kills each. Mandy Finch and Kirsten Platz added five kills while Kaitlin McCann finished with four kills. Jenessa Ceprish and Erin Fagan added eight digs each, and Christina Rauh finished with five assists in the victory.
Coach Roof wants his squad to put the loss behind them, as his team travels to Erie, Pa. on Wednesday night for a key conference matchup with Penn State Behrend. The Lions defeated Mt. Aloysius 3-1, and Pitt-Greensburg 3-0 to open AMCC play Saturday.
"We have to make sure we forget about how tough today was, because we have an incredibly important game coming up on Wednesday night," Roof said. "Every game is important and I am expecting us to bring our game against a very tough Penn State Behrend team on Wednesday."
