Lady Panthers split tri-match at Pitt-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford volleyball team came away with a split at Saturday's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tri-match hosted by Pitt-Greensburg. The Lady Panthers fell to Mount Aloysius 3-2, and defeated Pitt-Greensburg 3-1.

Pitt-Bradford (7-13, 1-1) dropped its match with Mount Aloysius (5-14, 1-1) by way of 25-16, 25-24, 21-25, 23-25 and 7-15. In their second match, the Panthers defeated Pitt-Greensburg (2-17, 0-2) 21-25, 30-28, 25-18 and 25-15.

Senior Taylor McMillen became just the fifth player in the history of the Pitt-Bradford volleyball program to register 1,000 kills in her career. She tallied 13 kills and two blocks in the first match with the Mounties.

Fellow senior Brittni Cumberland finished with eight kills, 24 assists and three service aces. Sophomore Kaitlin McCann tallied nine kills and five blocks, while freshman Haley Vinelli had 19 digs.

Versus the Bobcats, sophomore Brittany Watts registered 15 kills, a career high for the second year player, and three blocks. McMillen used 14 kills to clip the 1,000-kill milestone. She also had two blocks and one service ace.

McCann had 10 kills and two blocks, while sophomore Kelsey Repke notched 22 digs. Cumberland added seven kills, 15 digs and three aces.

"I'm extremely proud of Taylor for reaching the milestone this afternoon," said head coach Tina Phillips. "She has been a big part of our success in her time here."

Phillips went on to add that Mount Aloysius deserves credit for finding a way to win the first match.

"Give Mount credit, they played very hard," said Phillips. "We made too many mistakes, but I like the way we responded versus Greensburg. We found a way to get the win."

Pitt-Bradford travels to Erie, Pa., to take on Penn State Behrend on Oct. 1. The Panthers and Lions begin at 7 p.m.
