Volleyball edged by Penn State Altoona, 3-2

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Pitt-Bradford volleyball team suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Penn State Altoona on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Panthers fell in five sets, 17-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17 and 7-15.

Pitt-Bradford (10-19, 4-2) struggled to get going in the first two sets, but found its rhythm in the third and fourth to force a fifth game.

Senior Taylor McMillen stole the show with a dominating performance from her outside hitter position. McMillen tallied a whopping 25 kills and two digs. Senior Brittni Cumberland finished with nine kills, 26 assists and 11 digs. Senior Peyton Kauffman put together a solid performance with 14 assists and five digs.

Defensively, freshman Haley Vinelli tallied 29 digs to go with one assist. Sophomore Kelsey Repke notched 25 digs and two assists, while junior Jenessa Ceprish finished with 14 digs and two assists.

By statistical comparison, the Lady Panthers out-performed Penn State Altoona (11-11, 6-0) in both kills (51-45) and assists (43-32). Pitt-Bradford just couldn't escape an early deficit in the final set that saw the Lions roll late.

"This was a typical Altoona and Bradford battle," said head coach Tina Phillips. "I loved my team's effort today. A lot of momentum shifts and we just couldn't get anything going in the fifth set. We keep playing this hard and we will be alright the rest of the way."

The Lady Panthers host Franciscan at the KOA Arena on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m.
